    Tyre Tread Measurements

We all know that without the tyres on our cars we wouldn't get very far but did you know that the amount of tyre in contact with the road is roughly the same size as the palm of your hand?Tyres need to withstand, and transmit, tremendous forces therefore it is essential that they are regularly checked for pressure, wear & tear and damage.

It is also vital that your tyres are correctly matched to your specific vehicle and driving needs as an incorrect choice could compromise vehicle safety and performance; insufficient tread will affect grip and braking whilst incorrect tyre pressure will result in poor handling and increased fuel consumption.

At Ringways we have qualified, highly skilled technicians who can help to ensure you are driving on the correct tyres and we also have a range of tyres in stock so you won’t have to wait for an order to arrive
Just so you know what we are looking for when we check your tyres here’s how we check your tyres, what we are looking for and how that converts on to our traffic light rating system

How do we check your tyres?
We take 3 readings across the width of the tyre starting with the outside tread depth measurement.
If we find an excessive variance in the 3 readings, for example 6,5,1, then it may indicate that a wheel alignment check is required.

    What are we looking for?
We are looking to see how much tread is remaining on your tyres and whether they are correctly inflated for the load of the vehicle

Air conditioning system not cold enough – FULL SYSTEM CHECK & REGASS – ONLY £69.99

The Air Conditioning system in your vehicle is not usually covered by most manufacturers servicing schedules and the refrigerant gas that is used to operate the system depletes over time. On average most vehicles lose up to 15% per annum this problem can be caused when then system is not used during the winter months allowing the small "O" ring seals to dry out resulting in a gradual deterioration in system performance eventually resulting in the system being too low to operate at all.

Includes: Full leak check / regass of system to manufacturers levels / Lubrication oil to keep seals in good condition.

    Questions & Answers

    Q. How often should I run the air conditioning in my car?

    A. ideally, all the time. It is false economy to turn the system off in the winter. This can lead to deterioration of the seals and gaskets in your system and, even more rapid refrigerant loss. On the coldest of days turn the system on to ensure that the windows are demisted and the interior of the car is comfortable.  Contrary to popular belief this does not greatly reduce your mpg. It is only on the hottest of days when the system is working the hardest does you're air-conditioning noticeably effect fuel consumption.

    Q. When I switch my air conditioning system on I get an unpleasant damp smell which eventually clears, what causes it and how do I get rid of it?

    A. The smell is the result of bacteria/algae breeding in the condensation that collects in the system. The by-products produced by the bacteria are what cause the unpleasant odours and often cause allergic reactions, coughs, sneezes and sore throats.

    Q. There are air conditioning refrigerant 'top-up' kits for sale in motorist's shops, how good are they and should I consider using them?

    A. European law now prohibits the sale of refrigerants to unlicensed persons. Once the current stocks of these kits have been exhausted they will no longer be available. We strongly recommend against using them because they are potentially harmful to your vehicle and will certainly void any manufacturers warranty on the compressor. If you suspect that your system is not functioning correctly simply adding more refrigerant could actually do more harm. Also, be aware that many of the kits contain a leak inhibitor. These inhibitors have not proved effective in sealing leaky air-conditioning systems and will contaminate any gas that is left in your system which you will have to pay for its disposal. Also,  inexperience in handling high pressure gases could lead to an accident where you could easily injure yourself and others

    Q. Why can't I service the system myself?

    A. This is difficult not only because specialist equipment is needed but most importantly the refrigerant present in the system must be recovered. It is ILLEGAL to vent the refrigerant into the environment. The system is also under high pressure and needs pulling down to a near total vacuum to remove any moisture. The refrigerants themselves have a very low boiling point and will cause freeze burns if they come into contact with skin or eye tissue.

    Q. I have recently had my air conditioning system topped up but it has stopped working again, what could it be?

    A. The simple answer is you probably have a small leak. Over time refrigerant will work its way out of even a healthy system never mind one that has recently required filling or has been re-gassed for the first time after a long period of being out of service. The only way to be sure is to use specialist gas detectors that can sniff incredibly small amounts of refrigerant that would never be picked up with traditional pressure or soapy water testing. Also the detector can be safely used whilst the system is functioning testing for traces of refrigerant in the heater ducts and hard to get at areas of the engine bay.

    Q. Why does my car aircon system run low on refrigerant ?

    A. All the pipes and connections on your aircon system are naturally slightly porous so you lose anything up to 20% of the gas every year due to natural leakage.

  • XVision Parking Sensors

What is XVision Park Distance Control?

XVision Park Distance Control is parking system that allows you to park with ease to within a distance of 30cms. Built to Original Equipment Standard and with a 3 year warranty, it can be fitted to any vehicle, whether new or used.

XVision can be fitted to the rear, or the front and rear of your vehicle, offering total parking control. It detects solid or non-solid objects, such as bushes. It also detects children, animals and low objects, giving you piece of mind when manoeuvring in populated places.

XVision enables you to avoid expensive repair bills and loss of No Claims Bonus. It's worth bearing in mind that many insurance polocies have a typical excess of around £250 that you would otherwise have to pay.

    XVision parking sensors

I’m a good driver. Why do I need XVision?

Being able to reverse safely has nothing to do with being a good or bad driver. Particularly in the winter months, condensation, frost and when driving in the dark, visibility can sometimes be extremely poor.

In addition to this, modern design on new cars makes it very difficult to gauge just how close you are to an object.

XVision is incredibly vehicle-friendly, meaning it is available to anyone with the following options:

Rubber sensors for vehicles with metal bumpers (such as Ranger)
Angled sensors for vehicles with bumpers that are not vertical
Adjustable sensors for vehicles with rear spare wheels or towbars
All XVision sensors, excluding the rubber sensors, are paintable, allowing your Ford dealer to fully co-ordinate XVision with your vehicle

    How does it work?

    Rear System

As soon as you select reverse gear, XVision Park Distance Control is automatically switched on. If there are no objects within the sensing range, there will be no audible sound. Once an object comes within the range of 1.4 metres, you will hear an intermittent beeping sound.

As you continue to reverse, the beeping sound increases in frequency until you are 30cms away from the object. At this point the beeping sound becomes a constant tone, leaving you in no doubt that you have reached the minimum distance before making contact with the obstruction.

    Front System

The front system is wired in such a way that whenever the ignition is switched on, so is the Park Distance Control, and it works on the same principle as the rear system. However, there is an override switch fitted in a discreet location, offering you two options: to switch the system on when parking and switch it off when parked; alternatively, you can leave the system on permanently with the option of switching it off in slow moving traffic.

    It’s as easy as that.

  • Dolphin Parking Sensors

    Special offer and lifetime warranty.

Rear park sensors supplied and fitted from £199 in VAT.
Front park sensors supplied and fitted from £265 in VAT.
Front & rear park sensors supplied and fitted from £425 in VAT.

    How Parking Sensors Work

Parking sensors detect obstacles behind and also in front of you, should you choose both options. This will aid your parking and enable you to get into those tight spots without damaging your car. Using Utrasonic technology they emit a cone of sound behind your car which bounces off obstacles behind and returns to the sensor, the time taken for these sound waves to bounce and return off obstructions behind your car is how they calculate the remaining distance behind you.

This is the same technology that you will be familiar with as fitted on cars from new.

We offer a range of mounting options for these parking sensors from the traditional flush fitting parking sensors with just and audible alert or a combined display with the audio feedback.

If you're not sure which parking sensors to go for please give us a call and we'll take you through the options.

    Benefits

Apart from the obvious safety advantages, financially reverse parking parking sensors will pay for themselves if it prevents you from having just one accident. Regardless of your insurance there is aways that "excess" on your policy which is often £300+ these days. Any claims you make could damage your no-claims bonus and would impact on your next years renewal fees. It will also help you park in confidence in front of people without damaging your pride.

    Warranty

Our Dolphin parking sensors now come with a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects to the original owner.
